“No set of laws can eliminate evil from the world, or prevent every senseless act of violence in our society.”

So said President Obama in words of comfort in Newtown. The president was right to speak of evil, but mistaken when he called the massacre “senseless.”

Forgive him, Peter. He was a sick boy. I find myself thinking how we all began life as Adam did, as someone's precious baby boy or girl. Somewhere along the way, he took, or was taken along the wrong path. My heart goes out to the Lanza family as it does to the families of Adam's victims. And, I find myself thinking of my own children, now grown. As a parent, you never stop worrying. Never stop praying.

Calling My Children Home
Those lives were mine to love and cherish.
To guard and guide along life's way.
Oh God forbid that one should perish.
That one alas should go astray.

Back in the years with all together,
Around the place we'd romp and play.
So lonely now and oft' times wonder,
Oh will they come back home some day.

I'm lonesome for my precious children,
They live so far away.
Oh may they hear my calling...calling..
and come back home some day.

I gave my all for my dear children,
Their problems still with love I share,
I'd brave life's storm, defy the tempest
To bring them home from anywhere.

I lived my life my love I gave them,
to guide them through this world of strife,
I hope and pray we'll live together,
In that great glad here after life.

I'm lonesome for my precious children,
They live so far away.
Oh may they hear my calling...calling.. and come back home some day.

It’s like Adam Lanza came straight from the Bates Motel to the Sandy Hook School.

The Lanza will sadly be living with a LOT of guilt for the rest of their lives.

Speaking for myself, if my family bloodline produced such a monster I would sterilize myself. The brother and any siblings of father and mother should consider this. IF there could be testing for mental illness in a bloodline before marriage-like there is for many diseases-people could be informed of possible offspring being bats**t crazy.

What makes you think that he might not be?

Fine post. One would be hard-pressed to find a song more appropriate for the time.

“Calling My Children Home” shows the composer’s credit as being Charlie Waller, Doyle Lawson and Robert Yates, c. 1978. They were in the group “The Country Gentlemen” back then.

Give a listen to Ann and Pete Sibley’s version here:

There is also a version by a more “classic” choral assembly here:

Notwithstanding the battle regarding our Second Amendment rights that is coming, I would recommend the links above to anyone reading this. They’re worth your time.

Thanks for posting this. I wish I’d thought of it.
