so who gets to decide what is an appropriate number and type of weapons for self defense? last time I checked the 2nd amendment said “shall not be infringed”

The same people who get to decide use of excessive force and many other legal terms. Us. The people in a civilized society. By holding people accountable, it means be able to explain it to a jury and living with the consequences of those decisions. It is not illegal to own fertilizer especially if you have a yard. A quarter of an acre grassy patch in suburbia will draw the warranted attention of the ATF if you buy a thousand pounds of ammonium nitrate. What is the difference? Sudafed provides relief from a cold. Buying huge amounts of it to feed a meth lab its required pseudphedrine is a very real threat to society as well. Can we justify abandoning common sense for the sake of ideology? Really?
