Sunday
I learned about the massacre at Sandy Hook elementary school while we were setting up at Fox News to tape Cavuto on Business. The news was so horrible that we all felt as if we had lost our legs and could no longer stand. It was such horrible news that it simply turned the world upside down.
It still is that kind of news, and its incredibly depressing about the nature of humanity. And my wife and I pray all day for the souls of those dear children and for the peace, if there ever will be peace, of their families and for the souls of the adults and the peace of those who knew and loved them.
As usual, the smartest comment about the whole subject came from John R. Coyne, Jr. There is evil in the world. Its beyond mental illness, beyond gun control. It is evil.
The killer got his weapons from his mother, who apparently had bought them legally and registered them. That tells us something about what anti-gun laws would do, although maybe the mother should not have had them either. In this world, a killer devil can kill his mother and steal her guns to kill six year olds. Thats what some humans are and I am not sure what laws will stop them.

Laws won’t. Good people with equal or greater force of arms can...
Very well put indeed.
One wise commentary in the sea of idiocies, here and elsewhere.
Bump.
ping... good read...

Fifth, why are these killers always men? What is it that we teach our young men in this world that makes them think its a mark of manliness to kill the unarmed and innocent? Whatever it is, its disgusting. Its not manly to kill any unarmed human. Its miserable, crawling cowardice.
Men have a certain passion that can be channeled for good or evil. Drive across a bridge? Almost certainly built by a man. That gas in your car? Almost certainly recovered and ship by men. Nobel Prizes? Other than literature, mostly men. Murders and crazed genocidal leaders? Pretty much all men. A sane society tells men that manhood comes with responsibilities and works to channel their passion in good ways.
Our society, on the other hand, has tried very hard to get rid of any differentiation by gender. I would argue this has unintended consequences. The concept of manhood is lost, but the male passion is still there.
[[Well said. One important point among many in the article:]]
One imp-ortantp oint that will unfiortunately be drowned out i nthe sea of mass hysteria fro mthe left- His point will never see the light of day on any of those left5ist networks, and very few will even see it otherwise- The voise of reason is always drowned out by the idiotic left who has made an artform out of screaming, pouting, acting enraged, and demanding action-
Right now the GOP should be demaninding that the governemnt do somethign aobut enforcing the 1000’s of laws already on the books instead of keepign silent while the left takes even more rights away from law abiding citizens- but alas- the gop has compeltely lost hteir spine in the past decade or so
The short answer is: testosterone.
Males are dangerous, and the most dangerous males are adolescents and young men. This is reflected in every statistic we have that measures violent behavior.
We still really don't know what the actual details are in this particular case, so it's easy to jump to conclusions, but in the overwhelming number of cases of criminal violence, and violent behavior that is sanctioned by society, men are the perpetrators. That is a fact of human nature and it is impossible to ignore it or pretend that it's ever going to go away.
We restrain the demons of the darker nature of males in two ways. Women exert a (mostly) civilizing influence on older men. Younger men and adolescents are constrained by their fathers.
It hurt me deeply that when my sons were boys, despite the mutual love and respect we had for each other, there was a period in their lives when they would have to fear me. I knew this because there was a brief time in my life when my father knew that I needed to fear him. We are all -- dad, me, and sons -- men now, so that is no longer between us; it was necessary. It is necessary.
It is impossible, except in very rare circumstances for a woman to raise a boy to manhood. Even a very strongly rooted woman of unbending will cannot do it, for the simple reason that young men are not afraid of women. The failure to accept this is the reason for most of our decline, and it has far more serious consequences on every single day of the year than even the murders of dozens of innocent children. It is heartless to say it, but true: in a country of 300 million people, the murder of 30 is a tragedy, but it is virtually nothing compared to the hundreds of thousands of people in prisons and the literally millions of violent crimes they commit and the lives they destroy.
And most of them are not, in the strictest sense, mentally ill.
My father -- who had killed people -- did not raise me to believe that killing people was OK. He acknowledged it was a bitter but necessary duty. By way of him, my sons learned this, and many other things, from me; he had learned it from his own father. If you read Ben Stein's diary regularly, you know that he learned what he's learned from his father, and tries to make sure that his son learns it, too.
Responsible fatherhood is the correct solution to the problem of what makes men dangerous. But there are now too few men with the courage to say so.
however, what would you have us do?....
shall mothers have custody of their children up until age 12?...then hand them over to the fathers?
it is what it is....
the only solution is for people to stay married, stay married well...
the older generations didn't get divorced like people do nowadays....
you got married and you stayed married...you stayed a mother and you stayed a father....
and surprisingly, MOST people were happy, settled, content....
Sorry, Ben, but why would God help us? We threw him out of public life YEARS ago.
“Responsible fatherhood” bttt
Things got to change in this land. What can be done?
1. Crack down on Video Games that are violent and turn players into killers. Heck they cracked down on Comic books that were too violent in the 1950s.
2. Crack down and ban ultra violent movies and TV shows that glorify violence and murder. A little less blood PLEASE.
3. More school testing of kids who look like their going to go postal—loners and Goths, The cast offs and ones who are not there. Put them in mental hospitals! Build more if we must!
4. Don’t let these misfits brood and plan until they become murdering machines. They too are victims of our neglect. This should be the case of the so called homeless (I know of 3 people murdered by homeless men over the years).
5. We need to start a revival in this nation—a revival of hope-— Way too much racism, negativism and despair in the land. Get people working on great projects to inspire them.
Americorps/ Vista like things for young people. Maybe bring back the draft for National Service for all 18 year olds (That way we can weed out the nuts). Have em work in the National Parks like the CCC of old. We must ACT!
Please tell me you are joking.
Well stated.
