My son has been deployed overseas the past two years. My wife and I pray every day for his safety and for the safety of all of Americas sons and daughters serving in the nations military.
Thats why I find offensive the music video in which Korean pop star PSY appeared in which he wished death upon our men and women in uniform. Like my 23-year-old son, the only child with which my wife and I have been blessed.
Its also why I am angry that PSY has not been disinvited to an upcoming Christmas concert for President Obama, whom, I have repeatedly reminded my son, must be respected notwithstanding his policies because he is the nations duly-elected commander-in-chief.
I understand that PSY has apologized for adding his voice to a supposed protest song, Dear American, which included lyrics urging: Kill those f***ing Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives Kill their daughters, mother, daughters-in-law and brothers. Kill them all painfully and slowly.
But I believe the Korean truly meant what he sang. For the Bible advises, out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Or, in the case of Mr. Gangnam Style, the mouth sings.
Meanwhile, President Obama has uttered not a word in condemnation of Psys anti-America rant, which sounded very much like the kind of chilling declarations heard from the late Osama bin Laden. The White House did, however, issue a statement saying that its not up to them who performs for the president and his family.
Such a cop out is a profound insult to Americas military families. Especially to the families of the more than 6,000 service men and women who died in honorable service to this country since 2004, when PSY was on a Korean stage urging that U.S. military personnel be killed.
PSY cannot walk back his remarks. He said it. He meant it. And not until the emergence of video of the Korean singing for death to the f***ing Yankees gangnam style did Mr. 700 million YouTube hits finally repudiate those hateful remarks.
If President Obama appears at a concert at which PSY performs, he will confirm his contempt for the men and women who every day put their lives on the line in defense of their country.
I will no longer be able to tell my military son that the nations commander-in-chief deserves his respect.
So you have seen it? Translated it?
This is the impact of his latest work to our great service men and women. If this somehow contributed to this show of moral and joy, then I can forgive the little Kim lookalike.
bringing a lot of joy to good people
we need to not vote for him next time, right guys?
DON'T BUY THAT FREAKS RECORDS..
Morphing, did you see the Leno appearance? I saved it on my DVR and it just brings a tear to my eye, seeing all of them dancing. Lol. Love it!
they are hinting at changing the constitution . I would think he would just declared himself dick-tater for life
I tend to doubt that this whole thing is made up. If this psy character hadn’t made the remarks, he wouldn’t redact them but rather he would deny them.
I followed the link. Great stuff. People having a lot of fun.
On the Musics Awards he did the dance with MC hammer. Nice tribute.
I’m sorry, but I believe there’s room for forgiveness, especially for a foreigner like PSY. Here’s his apology, which looks about as good as public apologies get:
“As a proud South Korean who was educated in the United States and lived there for a very significant part of my life, I understand the sacrifices American servicemen and women have made to protect freedom and democracy in my country and around the world. The song I featured on in question from eight years ago - was part of a deeply emotional reaction to the war in Iraq and the killing of two Korean schoolgirls that was part of the overall antiwar sentiment shared by others around the world at that time. While I’m grateful for the freedom to express one’s self, I’ve learned there are limits to what language is appropriate and I’m deeply sorry for how these lyrics could be interpreted. I will forever be sorry for any pain I have caused by those words.
“I have been honored to perform in front of American soldiers in recent months - including an appearance on the Jay Leno show specifically for them and I hope they and all Americans can accept my apology. While it’s important that we express our opinions, I deeply regret the inflammatory and inappropriate language I used to do so. In my music, I try to give people a release, a reason to smile. I have learned that thru music, our universal language we can all come together as a culture of humanity and I hope that you will accept my apology.”

The guy was a no-name DJ/rapper at the time of his offensive words, anxious for attention—and some US soldiers had just killed some Korean school-girls in an accident—and there was huge Korean anger because of that. Besides that, Koreans are known as the most emotional of all Asians...fist-fights are routine in their parliament, for example... I think we should give him a break. Anyone who can make millions dancing that silly—in a song which seriously makes fun of the excesses of his own countrymen—is OK by me.
Just to clarify, there were two separate events:
“During a 2002 protest concert against the presence of 37,000 American troops in Korea, PSY took the stage in gold face-paint and, with the crowd egging him on, lifted a miniature American tank and smashed it on the ground to massive applause.
And then in 2004, a Korean missionary was captured in Iraq by Islamists who demanded that South Korea not send troops to aid America in the war in Iraq.
Seoul refused to negotiate and the missionary was beheaded.
The result: massive protests throughout Korea against both Muslim extremism and the U.S. military for indirectly bringing this fate upon a Korean missionary.
As part of the protests, PSY and several other popular Korean musicians put on a live performance of a Korean rock bands song Dear American.
When PSYs turn came, he rapped:
Kill those f*cking Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives
Kill those f*cking Yankees who ordered them to torture
Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law and fathers
Kill them all slowly and painfully”
Thanks wolficatz.
Keep him out of this country.
