Alcoa said Tuesday that it will lay off all 43 employees at its Auburn plant and curtail the plant by the end of March 2013.
The company told employees about its plan in meetings Monday.
While this was a difficult decision made necessary by market conditions, we wanted to give our employees as much notice as possible. We recognize how deeply this impacts them, and we are working to support them through this transition process, said Monica Orbe, director of communications for Alcoa Engineered Products and Solutions, based in New York, N.Y.
Orbe used the word curtail to describe Alcoas decision and objected to using the term close in reporting about the plant.
Officially known as Alcoa Automotive Indiana Assembly and Fabricating Center, the plant on Auburns southwest side makes aluminum parts for the automotive and defense industries. Its work force has been shrinking steadily in recent years, and it currently has 25 hourly workers and 18 salaried employees, the company said...

Auburn, Indianna is one of my favorite cities. Went to a Pizza Inn and it looked like Pizza Inn used to look like. There’s a reason but I can’t say what it is.

For the record, the Guru predicts the Goonion members will trash the factory in every way their devious, free loading minds can devise before they walk out for the last time.
Better to have mailed a check to all after they left on Friday, and the plant was secured by non-union guards.
I hope I am wrong, but does anyone want to bet against my prediction?
I predict a flurry of workplace accidents leading to disability checks for life.
