The only way to save the Middle Class is to make them feel the pain of useless spending. The worst thing would be a tax hike on the rich only because it would further distort our tax base toward the top 1%. There would be no pressure to reduce spending — about a third to half of which is of little to no benefit. If the Middle Class truly wants a huge Welfare State (and from the looks of the last election, they may), then they should grow up and pay for it by accepting a huge Middle Class tax hike.
I agree and the best way to do it would be to eliminate the local and state tax and mortgage exemptions from the federal income tax code. Then we’ll see how much the blue staters like big government.
