And almost no one on FR can understand that the plural of proper nouns is not made by placing an apostrophe at the end of the word followed by an "s."

I think you're being terribly unfair.

Based on what I read here, I believe most mis-apostrophisers use the "it is due" method. E.g. I've typed three words ending in "S" without an apostrophe so the next word ending in "S" get's (!) an apostrophe because its (!) due.
