*** PING ***
I met him around 1978 at one of my first jobs at a gas station in the middle of the night.
He had a thick Brooklyn accent and was a very nice guy.
I liked the Midnight Special.
American women are the pits. Find yourself a good, foreign womam, preferably of Asian descent.
The very first time I heard “American Woman”, I exclaimed, “Right on!” :-)
This is one of my faves. It has a great hook, great melody.
Actually, I have a thing for novelty songs. They usually have good melody and stick with you. They come in for so much disrespect, but some are quite good.

I heard this story a few years back on an oldies station. Apparently, the Guess Who performed at the White House during one of their reunion tours. Because of the anti-American tone of American Women, they chose not to play it. They only played it after a personal request from President George W. Bush. If the story is true, the Guess Who might have mellowed some - regardless of their political views, it seems that they are least respectful which is really rare for flaming liberals.
I occasionally sing along with “American Woman” and change it to “Canadian Woman”. ;)
‘Blue Colar’ and ‘Welcome Home’, (”Silver ‘Vette with gold wheels...we see him cruise around the town”!), were GREAT songs! Wow, 40 years ago or so. It seems like it all happened only yesterday....
