The entire basis of socialism is the idea that critics, and not TR’s “man in the arena,” deserve the credit for economic accomplishment. Put a critic in charge, of course, and he promptly changes his tune to “judge me by my good intentions rather than by my accomplishments.”So we instantly see, if we are at all alert, that the only excellence of the socialist lies in his facility with propaganda. Only an effective propagandist can get away with sophistry, and we have lately been awakening to just how powerful propaganda can be.
