Anyone who has ever been part of a "rule book slow down" knows how very effectively they can be. We will see all kinds of forms of resistence - bank on that.

Who’s gonna pay the bills if the responsible producing states leave?

I don’t want a civil war, but I will move to any state that secedes. If the tyrant in our White House attacks peaceful citizens of a free state, I will not side with tyranny.

Texas v. White 74 U.S. 700 (1869) the court held that the Constitution did not permit states to unilaterally secede from the United States, and that the ordinances of secession, and all the acts of the legislatures within seceding states intended to give effect to such ordinances, were “absolutely null”. http://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/historics/USSC_CR_0074_0700_ZO.html

The United States was originaly a Confederation governed by the Aerticles of Confederation. When it became united under the Constitution, it was considered that the People, not the States themselves, created one compound government.

The People divided power among branches and levels of government in order to protect individual liberty. Although the “states” ratified the Constitution, it was done by special state “conventions” called with representatives elected solely for that purpose. It was NOT the State legislatures that ratified the document.

For this reason, we are “one nation indivisable.”

If this happens the Russian prognosticator was correct.. the US will balkanize geogrphically and end being a world power.

Doubt the will is there to do this yet, but things stay the same course, this could indeed change.

I would say watch Texas... it has the economic and political clout to actually make/spearhead this in todays world. Any state other than it is just bluster IMHO.

Texas decides to go, it will lead a pack.

However, I don’t think we are at that point yet... but 20 years of less things stay they way they are, then this may indeed come to pass.

re: “In mid-July ..posed the question of whether there might be a “constructive secession” by various states if Barack Obama was re-elected.”

Obama will not allow a “constructive secession” or a “peaceful secession” or any other kind of secession. Why? Because he wants our money and our productivity.

In essence, Obama is the new Pharaoh and we are the slaves. He cannot, will not “let us go” because his own supporters are unproductive and need the financial backing of the producers.

If secession happens, it won’t be peaceful.

It is amazing but yes there are now 20 states with such petitions. But what is more amazing is how quickly the movement is being characterized as one of a shooting Civil War II - repeat of the first one. They CAN”T accept the idea of a “rule book slow down - constructive secession” because they KNOW it will work and KNOW it will hurt them. So watch them crank up the lie machine to try to kill this movement.
As to Red states getting more federal money than Blue states, let’s see how long that remains true when the Blues become totally unlivable because the “makers”; flee the “takers”; and move South. California will give way to California East - New York California Midwest- Illinois and California Southeast - Maryland.

I started the Maryland petition. Just as a note, if Maryland had decided to leave the union at the same time as Virginia and the rest of the states did, the civil war could have turned out very differently...
