Is this why CIA chief really resigned? Gun running to jihadists could dwarf 'Fast and Furious'...

JERUSALEM – The speculation surrounding the sudden resignation of CIA Chief General David Petraeus is focusing in large part on his role in an alleged cover-up of the attacks against the U.S. mission in Benghazi this past September.

Perhaps overlooked is the CIA’s role in purportedly using the Benghazi mission to coordinate U.S. aid to Syrian opposition groups and information those same insurgents include jihadists openly acting under the al-Qaida umbrella.

One week before he was slated to testify before Congress on the Benghazi debacle, Petraeus on Friday night announced his resignation, citing an extramarital affair, and it was reported he will no longer testify.

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., the House Homeland Security Committee chairman, charged in an interview with CNN that Petraeus is “at the center of this, and there are answers that only he has.” King was referring to the Benghazi attacks.

Asked if he will still call for Petraeus testify despite his resignation, Rep. King replied, “Absolutely, to me, he’s an absolutely necessary witness.”

Patraeus resigned at a time when the U.S. intelligence community is facing criticism over both its response to the assault in Benghazi and whether it had early warnings of al-Qaida plans to attack the U.S. mission in that country.

The White House and multiple State Department officials had immediately blamed a crude film about the Islamic figure Mohammad for what they claimed were popular protests that preceded the attacks on the U.S. mission.

According to new, vivid accounts provided by the State Department and intelligence officials, no such popular demonstration took place the night of the attack. Instead, video footage from Benghazi reportedly shows an organized group of armed men attacking the compound, the officials said.

That Benghazi compound is repeatedly referred by the news media to as a “consulate.”

I’d like to hope that he can and will.

For whatever good praying does, say a few that we still have some Patriots left who CAN do something up at that level...

Signing off for the night; head’s pounding, and I need a couple of shots of Jack to relax. Good speaking with you folks.

What makes anyone think they will impeach Obama?

Because Republicans retained the US House. They have a mandate from the people. And they have the votes for impeachment, which is just a simple majority. The impeachment is equivalent to an indictment. The US Senate determines if the impeached individual should be removed from public office. Now removing him from office is near impossible, but we all need to know if crimes were committed. We have a right as US citizens to know exactly what our President is doing on our behalf. He is using our equipment, our money and our people.

Syria is the worlds leading nation on the development, construction and armament of Chemical Weapons. Most everyone else in the world has decommissioned their stocks or destroyed them. The other main players in that chemical weapons market are Iran and Egypt. So why on Earth would you send some of the worlds worst terrorist organizations into Syria simply to destabalize the government controlling the WMD stockpiles ?

And if you are going to do all that, why not give some of Libya's chemical WMD to the terrorist organizations. After all, Syria has some so the terrorists should have some ? Right ? If they actually did that, we will see a chem terror attack very soon.

They certainly have the votes to do it, but Bonehead and Cantor will be too
busy screwing us with another Grand Bargain and Amnesty.

He may have told barry he’s not covering for him and barry was po’d and told him to get out along with threats I would imagine to give something to Petraeus to think about before he testifies. The affair is only a cover story like a poster said up thread.

.Looks like it is a majority of Obama’s cabinet members who would have to declare Obama unable to execute the duties of his office,.

Didn't know that but I bet obama does. Thanks.

It will not be Petraeus’s untimely death, it will be the death of his children, his wife, Paula Broadwell’s children, or husband that may keep Petraeus in check for Obama. This Chicago mafia will stop at nothing to maintain control of the country and therefore its billions of dollars. I do not know if Petraeus can protect them and still tell all.

I am thinking the annex was keeping a wall between itself and the consulate in order to hide just how many CIA were in Libya. Not just from the Libyans, but maybe also from the State Department. Remember how they had to send a second plane to get them out and the Libyans were supposedly shocked at how many Americans were actually at the annex?

Here’s what I don’t understand about this—was there no background investigation done before he took the job at the agency? No polygraph? Nothing that would have uncovered the affair prior? I’m pretty familiar with the process and I find it hard to believe. Both that they wouldn’t investigate and that they wouldn’t have known prior to his start about the affair. Which would make this whole claim of the affair being suddenly uncovered completely ridiculous.

We live in a Banana Republic now. King Obama had his reasons for wanting Petraeus to be CIA Director. Nothing would get in the way of that.

There is no way this affair wasn’t known. I have been in similar situations at the office and it is very noticeable when the boss is spending a lot of private time with a particular young hottie. They knew and chose him anyway.

I will be very surprised if Petreaus doesn’t cover Obama’s arse on this. On the other hand, he might tell the truth and no one will do a thing about it.

After the last four years, anything is possible.

Petreaus isn’t stupid.

Yes, exactly. They knew. Not a reason to resign. I could see if he began the affair after he started at the agency and it was something that he was hiding from them and made him vulnerable to blackmail. I don’t think that’s the case here. If he had a proper background investigation, he would have admitted to extramarital affair(s) during the poly.

But that information would not have necessarily gone to anyone else—the CIA does their own background investigations. Then the FBI found out. Not sure I believe they “stumbled” on it. Maybe they were directed to look for dirt by someone who knew the rumors and wanted blackmail material.

I guess I will be amazed if we do get the straight scoop about Benghazi. For me its been a drip, drip, drip phenomena ever since it happened. Just when you think you know something another drip occurs.

It is the liberal mindset especially if they are in control to keep the fresh clear waters always muddy. Some of this stuff would by definition need be kept classified. However, when Obama is presented the 'peacemaker' is in secret arming AlQaeda to take out Assad, this is going to get a reaction out of Russia. Not to mention maybe a few Americans.

Remember in the last debate when the Libya question was asked of Romney and he ignored Libya and went directly to Russia? Bells went off for me given that Romney was getting intel briefings. Personally I see Obama as the 'image' speaking for the hidden power brokers that we as Americans are clueless as to what is really taking place.

There are known knowns; there are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns; that is to say there are things that, we now know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns – there are things we do not know we don't know.

And then there are the no-nos we know and the no-nos we don't know,

eWhy not resign before the election and have this blow up in Obama’s face?

Between Sandy and the election, it would have been buried as effectively as the rest of the events.

I think people who had said their departments were NOT the ones who issued no-go orders were banking on Duh-1 being voted out or a 'pubbie Senate, or both. Didn't happen, and some careers will end because people spoke out.

The headliners may or may not be 'safe', but it is likely some minor players will get sick, have accidents, etc. in the next few months.
