What an excellent point!
I got a printout many years ago of UW charities. Shocking waste. One was a group that sponsored unwed mothers to send them on two-week vacations in the Caribbean, giving them a "well-deserved" rest from the stress of single parenthood. That was the day I started to research and donate to groups of MY choice.
Please, do your own research and pick an organization where your dollars have even a remote chance of actually going to the needy. Church groups are far better at helping the poor. Support them.
my employer has an on line donation system, has for a few years. Each dept. tries to get the best percentage of workers responding. After the first few years where to not donate one had to put in one was donating $0, last year they finally gave a I’m not donating at this time button.
The sooner one goes in and responds the sooner on stops the stupid mail requests! I don’t know if the company gives more $$ to UW based on response or not. Never asked that.
Per my tagline I have been “living lik no one else” to become debt free. I am only a few weeks from paying off my mortgage and as a result had started putting together a list of major projects and purchases. I was originally planning to spend about $48K over the next 2 years!
I am re-evaluating that list as we speak and can probably minimize that to $5K or less. If I can find a used laptop and a used couch, then I can get it even lower. Regretfully, I have to do a front porch repair that could run some significant change, but it is required to keep the city off my back!
