OK, here's a fact:
No one who is identified primarily as a social conservative can win a statewide race anywhere in the United States.
The best cover for socon beliefs is liberty - i.e., what socon families need most right now is to be left alone by the state. But first we must come to terms with the no more Akins - no more Mourdocks issue, which I imagine will be very difficult.
Akins and Murdoch’s problems were not that they were social conservatives. Their problems were their tongues flapping without engaging their brains. They made totally unpalatable statements that became huge soundbites for their opposition.
It doesn’t take a great brain to say simply “my religion leads me to respect all life as sacred until we have these issues decided by elected legislatures and not by unelected judges. I’m a great believer in “due process of law.”
“No one who is identified primarily as a social conservative can win a statewide race anywhere in the United States.”
The only success of the night was by a bold social conservative tea-partier. Ted Cruz proves you wrong.
