Sounds like a computer or monitor problem to me. But then, I know jack nothing.
I agree. It’s not likely that it’s malware. It’s a problem with the screen or with the video chip on the motherboard. I would take it to a computer repair place. It may, or may not be worth fixing, depending on the current value of your laptop.
