Wal-Mart Chairman Gives $1M To Obama Super PAC; Bundlers Moonlight As Super PAC Donors
By Luke Rosiak October 20, 2012 The super PAC backing President Obama raised $15 million last month, including $1 million from Sam Walton, the chairman of Wal-Mart, a traditional Republican-leaning organization.
Also contributing $1 million to Priorities USA was filmmaker Steven Spielberg, whose colleague Jeffrey Katzenberg is an Obama bundler and gave $1 million himself. Fred Eychaner, who has raised at least half a million dollars from acquaintances for the Obama campaign, gave $2 million personally to the super PAC.

Shame on you, Sam Walton.
Now I don’t feel so bad that Walmart was banned by NYC
wal mart needs to feel the heat from conservatives.
Hmmm? Was it given out of fear or stupidity?
Sam Walton has been dead for quite some time, shame on his heirs. Ol’ Sam’s spinning in his grave. His Walmart proudly stocked and advertised Made in USA products. His heirs ushered in Chinamart.
Meanwhile the unions are organizing and planning strikes against Walmart.
The Obama campaign borrowed $15 million from Bank Of America. (It was either Oct 2012 or last month). I don’t think the story has been posted on FR yet.
This is true. Conservatives need to hit back with a vengeance.
Walmart pays tribute to each party, But paying off Obama, it really is akin extortion.
Rob Walton is Chairman of Walmart. What else did this story get wrong?
He didn’t build that.....his daddy did!
None of the Walton kids are anything like Sam Walton, born with a silver spoon (& a trust fund) didn’t help.
Since the 2006 federal election cycle began, Rob Walton has given $135,500 in federal political contributions. Of that total, $12,600 went to Wal-Mart Stores or Arvest Bank Group; of the remaining $122,900, 73% went to Republicans. The only Democrat or Democrat-affiliated group he has given to other than former Arkansas Senator Blanche Lincoln is Barack Obama ($2,300 in October 2008) and the DNC ($28,500 in October 2008).
Examples of state-level giving
California: In 2005, Arizona resident Rob Walton donated $250,000 to Yes on 77, a group formed in support of Californias Proposition 77. Had it not been defeated by California voters, Proposition 77 would have given authority to redraw congressional and legislative districts to three retired judges, shifting that power from the Democrat-controlled General Assembly and strengthening the Republican governors hand.
The meeting, which capped a weeklong slate of events, follows a story by The New York Times in April that the world’s largest retailer allegedly failed to notify law enforcement after finding evidence that officials authorized millions of dollars in bribes in Mexico to get speedier building permits and other favors.
Following the allegations, it’s been reported that federal authorities in the U.S. and Mexico are investigating Wal-Mart for potential violations. Investors are suing top executives. And some shareholders are calling for the removal of several board members, including Walton, Duke and former CEO Lee Scott.
Wal-Mart disclosed in a regulatory filing late Friday that several executives including Duke, Scott, and Walton are the target of 11 “derivative” lawsuits, a type of legal action that seeks to change corporate governance. The lawsuits charge that the executives neglected their responsibilities in handling the alleged bribery scandal. Wal-Mart also noted in its filing that a securities class action lawsuit was filed against the company on May 7.
Sam Walton is dead, Jim.
If this is true, I’m DONE with Walmart. Hardly go to any other store. Man this will break my heart.
Maybe Luke has been doing too much choom with nobama? Sam Walton, creator of Wal*Mart, died in April, 1992.
“Rob Walton is Chairman of Walmart. What else did this story get wrong?”
He isn’t “Republican leaning”, he is self-serving.
Finally, a legit reason to avoid WalMart. I mean, c’mon... Donating to Obama? What is this idiot thinking???
I know dead people vote in Chicago all the time, but not in Bentonville...
Samuel R. Walton, Sam's son, who often goes by "Rob."
The Solyndra - Walmart Connection
A lot has been said about the ties of George Kaiser, a campaign contribution bundler for President Obamas 2008 campaign, to the Solyndra bankruptcy scandal that likely has cost taxpayers $535 million thanks to a Department of Energy loan guarantee. Kaisers investment firm, Argonaut Venture Capital, held over 35 percent of the failed solar companys stock more than anyone else.
But next in line (with 11 percent) behind Argonaut in the Solyndra stakes is Madrone Capital Partners, which is managed by a trio whom the political Left has attempted to tie to support for Republicans. Of course, they did it too is not a legitimate defense, but in this case, its not a portrayal of the entire picture either.
Madrone is tied to the Walton family of Walmart fame and is co-managed by an in-law, Gregory Penner, who also serves as a Walmart director. He is the son-in-law of S. Robson Rob Walton, married to his daughter Carrie. Rob, Walmart Stores chairman of the board, is one of founder Sam Waltons sons. Madrones other partners are listed as Jameson Jamie McJunkin and Thomas Patterson, and McJunkin is also a director for Solyndra.
Walmart can no longer be portrayed as a “conservative” or “Republican” company. Beginning under former CEO Lee Scott, and accelerating under present CEO Mike Duke, Walmart has become a powerful backer of a host of left-wing causes. This shift is detailed in an NLPC Special Report titled Wal-Mart Embraces Controversial Causes: Bid to Appease Liberal Interest Groups Will Likely Fail, Hurt Business.
Thanks! The last time I checked, it hadn’t been posted yet.
I was going to post it but I hesitated because I was not sure of the name of the website that the ex Freeper owns that we’re not suppose to articles from. I could not find it on the list of sites. I thought it either had the word “Washington” or “Examiner” in it. So, to be on the safe side I didn’t post it.
Samuel Robson “Rob” Walton.
“Hmmm? Was it given out of fear or stupidity?”
Sam Walton’s eldest son is now Chairman of the company (S. Robson Walton). He did not build the business. He is a second generation trust fund child who has a law degree and $21 billion he inherited from his father and mother. Likely he was properly indoctrinated in liberal ideology in college and law school. To maintain in status with the New York elites he is making this gift from his own pocket, not company funds.
With respect to fear, no doubt Mr. Walton has reasons for making the gift. As personally wealthy as he is, it is unlikely the administration could threaten him so the gift likely reflects a desire to ingratiate himself with the beautiful people or genuine admiration for Obama and the party.
Mr. Walton and others who are opening their wallets for Mr. Obama are fortunate the Republicans (since Nixon) will not take action to punish their opponents once elected. As one of the wealthiest men in the country, and member of the elite class, Mr. Walton will likely receive a social invitation from Mr. Romney to the White House, even though he is funding the Democrats. Same for Mr. Buffett, the leaders of the big media companies, and the CEO’s of the Wall Street Banks. Blue blood transcends politics, at least for Republicans.
as has been reported repeatedly by NLPC, the Walton family while yes, often supporting Republican candidates and particularly passionate about the school choice issue has also thrown considerable money into environmental causes. Even more significant, Walmart incessantly boasts of its commitments to sustainability, cap-and-trade, and even ObamaCare. Press releases about new solar panels installed at the companys stores are issued regularly. Walmarts reputation for environmental activism became so great that the company is now the subject of a fawning book titled Force of Nature, The Unlikely Story of Walmarts Green Revolution: How It Could Transform Business and Save the World, about their allegedly conservationist practices, despite eight consecutive quarters of same-store sales declines.
THANK YOU, for that information!
I was stunned by his alleged donation Absolutely stunned.
suppose they think they need a large and increasing peasant population to keep making dough...
Holy crap....this is huge. Get ready for the boycott! Last dime spent at Wal-Mart here!
Anyone who can claim that much stupidity at this late date must be of the lichen genus.
I’ve been trying to direct as much of my household purchasing as possible to Wal-Mart in support of their past conservative leanings and being attacked by unions so much in recent years.
If profits go to the radical left, though, that ends right now.
There ya’ go. Nailed it, didn’t you?
No one but the commies in office have caused Walmart more headaches and cost them millions than the Clinton and the Obama administrations, particularly the Chucky Schumer machine.
This is a deplorable bribe for relief, or the Waltons are being used in some global connection with China is just as likely. There must be more to this story than meets our eye, and none of it looks good.
Yet another illustration of why we need to stop feeding the beast!
Gerald Celente is right - buy local, bank local.
Cut off funding; that’s all most of us can do to effect change. It’ll cost a little more and sometimes is inconvenient, but if we all do it we’ll be the better off for it, I assure you.
Walmart was the last American sore that I visited, on my way to the airport in Jan. 2005.
I never expect to see another one.
Wow, Wal-Mart just pooped on their biggest supporters.
I wonder if this has to do with Walmarts desire to get cheap crap out of China?
Gave one million to Obama.
Well, frankly then I really don’t care if unions succeed in taking over Walmart.
I wonder if this is to show appreciation to Obama for his huge increase in the welfare roles and EBT cards?
Could be purely a business decision. Wal Mart is the biggest retailer of low cost goods — something people really, really need when the economy sucks.
4 more years of Obama guarantees 4 more years before Wal Mart has to worry about shoppers visiting more upscale alternatives.
Gives me all the more reason to shop at a Target store.
I never go there. In our Walmart you have to either speak spanish, or Swahili. I don’t speak either.
I actually lasted 9 months working at Walmart. Worst place I ever worked. I have not set foot in a Walmart in 3 1/2 years.
It was given out of pure self-interest. Romney has vowed to get tough on China's currency manipulation and Walmart is the by far the biggest profiteer on Chinese imports.
DISGUSTING!!!! Is Sam Walton GAY?? Honestly, why would decent people give money or votes to such LOWLIFES???
Don't worry about that. It it is a site banned from FR, the posting page software will prevent you from posting.
Thank you. I was gonna say the same thing except I was gonna use more words.
Sam Walton II is just looking out for his own @$$, and Ayn Rand would approve.
You people here at FR stand up for Wal*Mart all the time. I’ve dealt with them as a supplier and they are ruthless at driving USA businesses out of business favoring China’s “lower costs”’ ,,, and now they support Obama? I’ve been flamed here often for my view. Ok, for the “love Wal*Mart” crowd here at FR ... Lets see you defend this ... Don’t give me “outrage” give me the defense. Kind of like defending liberals isn’t it...and you have done it often here for Wal*Mart, as naively as any Obama hope and changer. Now you see the real Wal*Mart appear and you are outraged. C’mon flamers, I want to see you defend this one. (Crickets?)
