Small donors were encouraged to “launder” a money gift by turning around and forwarding the sum equal to what some “anonymous” contributor had mysteriously made available to them, passing it through to the DNC or the various separate candidate campaigns, which created the false impression of widespread (Astro-Turf) grassroots support. And it was virtually untraceable, as long as the individual contributions were below a couple of hundred dollars.
This tactic is now carved in stone on some tablet somewhere, but for public consumption, it shall be written only in invisible ink. A computer entry is highly evanescent, but its mischief may be done in nanoseconds.
