“Is a significant part of the Hispanic vote likely to shift away from President Obama?”
NO, because it’s not about Fast and Furious, it’s about identity politics and getting the benefits from the welfare state.
When did President Obama become an Hispanic?
He may still get a substantial Hispanic vote, but even a small reduction would be a good thing.
The Latino voters in the US are being made aware by the Mexican media that the Obama administration used the Latinos as fodder. 300 Mexicans killed during F&F. That is the true picture of how this administration sees Latinos, pawns and targets. It is the ultimate in racism, bordering on genocide, to target Latinos as expendable in an attack on the 2nd admendment.
The ‘current-occupant-of-the-oval-office’ is also abusing his influence w/Muslim population in the ME resulting in equal collateral carnage with his support for what is commonly referred to as the “Arab Spring” aka “Obama’s intifada” - currently escalating efforts to undermine our first amendment as well.
That seems to be the case. Perhaps the perception will be enhanced by tonight's Univision broadcast. I hope so.
You are on target!
From your writings to God’s eyes.
Just finished watching it (in Spanish). It was pretty damning of Obama.
I was in and out for brief periods, but I never heard any of the “it started during the Bush admin” nonsense. They focussed on dates in eg 2009-2011 (Obama’s watch). They also played part of the recent interview he did with Univision, which did not go well for him. They also related the circumstances of the deaths of Jaime Zapata and Brian Terry (one of the family lawyers said he had asked for info from the US DOJ and others repeatedly, and had gotten no response (he said “one would think they are trying to hide something”
(not a direct translation))). Interesting twist at the end. The announcer did the obligatory 2nd Amendment and the US arming the enemy, but after the program one could ask if that meant the US government arming the enemy. (Of course no mention of the fact that the Mexicans have supposedly strict gun laws and also have a higher rate of murder with guns.)
UPDATE And now, some of the fit begins to hit the shan, I mean principled media. According to this piece on ABC, based on the Univision broadcast,
On January 30, 2010, a commando of at least 20 hit men parked themselves outside a birthday party of high school and college students in Villas de Salvarcar, Ciudad Juarez. Near midnight, the assassins, later identified as hired guns for the Mexican cartel La Linea, broke into a one-story house and opened fire on a gathering of nearly 60 teenagers. Outside, lookouts gunned down a screaming neighbor and several students who had managed to escape. Fourteen young men and women were killed, and 12 more were wounded before the hit men finally fled.Juarez is, of course, on the border with Texas.
Univision News identified a total of 57 more previously unreported firearms that were bought by straw purchasers monitored by ATF during Operation Fast and Furious, and then recovered in Mexico in sites related to murders, kidnappings, and at least one other massacre. Will voters like what they are now learning about F&F? Most probably won't.
Once again, it’s highly unlikely that this is going to make a big dent in the Hispanic vote for Mitt Romney. It’s about the benefits and identity politics, and Hispanics don’t identify with the Republican party.
You may well be correct. However, the election will probably be close and even a small dent may enough to put Governor Romney over the top. Every little bit counts. And, as the results of the Univision investigation are regurgitated, probably with reluctance, by the "principled media," there may be an impact on non-Hispanic voters.
Doing the work that MSM so-called "journalists" won't do...
Jamie Zapata...first time I have seen his name in the press.
Is it bad enough that many would stay home and not vote, rather than vote for Obama?
Suits me just fine.
“there may be an impact on non-Hispanic voters.”
Hopefully, yes, that’s actually more likely than a big dent in the “Hispanic” vote.
And by the way, the white vote is much, much large than the Hispanic vote anyway. You wouldn’t get that impression from the media.
Oops, I meant “larger” not “large”. Sorrey.
Oops, I meant “larger” not “large”. Sorry.
