“Both very good choices. Wendy is great, we had a rally for her here and raised some money for her. Our first meeting was a 2 hour one.

I was told about Kathy thru Jason McGuire we have also backed her. We have 7 candidates running for senate and she is one of them.”

That is so good to hear!

If Kathy Marchionne wins the GOP primaries, it will send both RINO McDonald and Cuomo a message that they can’t thwart the voters will and legislate gay so-called marriage. If we don’t weaken Cuomo now, we could have him as president some day. Yikes. He seems to be good a duping the public.

Anyone else think Boehner was drunk after Romney’s speech?

I don’t have much of an opinion on George McClellan as a politician, he sure was a lousy general.

That was messed up how the 1864 rat platform was for making peace and McClellan was allegedly for winning. Talk about schizophrenic.

Almost like the GOP being against Osamacare and yet nominating....oops never mind. ;d

I agree on McClellan’s military prowess. He screwed up the Seven Days’ Battles, at one point when Stonewall Jackson sat rather than reinforce advanced Confederate units that easily could have been surrounded and wiped out, swinging the whole battle. Then, again, at Antietam, he first ignored Lee’s exposed right flank until it was way too late, then insisted on charging across bridges when the creek itself was fordable. And, of course, he failed to follow up, ending the war in 1862.

Speaker Boehner is a nice man, but not tough enough, or astute enough, to be Speaker. I wish the Republican congresscritters would replace him with a stronger leader.

What’s your take on Whitman v. Bill Bradley? It seemed she got the nod for guv based on her near-victory then, so it probably wasn’t a surprise that she got nominated. Do you think she came off better then and just got worse later on?

Bradley was caught in the Florio backlash, one reason he nearly lost in ‘90 (it would be a year later that the GOP would sweep landslides in the legislature — no Dem was safe). Whitman was outspent by some 10-to-1, but she expertly tied Bradley to Florio (had she had more money, she might’ve succeeded) and he just ran a terrible campaign (it also destroyed his viability for the ‘92 Presidential race and he was convinced he would lose to Congressman Dick Zimmer in ‘96 that he outright retired).

She didn’t win the nomination for Governor in ‘93 without a sweat, facing Kean’s former Attorney General, Cary Edwards (who held her to a 40-33% margin). Edwards had lost to Congressman Jim Courter in ‘89 for the right to face Florio in the prior Gubernatorial contest. As a Kean Republican, I don’t think Edwards would’ve been much better as a Governor than Whitman. As it was, Whitman never could get a majority of the vote (49% in ‘93 and just under 47% in ‘97), and she only beat both Florio and McGreevey by exactly 1%, pretty poor (especially in the ‘97 race).

Ultimately, yes, she came off as a giant-slayer in the early going with a bright future, but her decided preference for steering a left course and pissing off the base ultimately doomed her. She, of course, remains one of the most reviled RINOs in the country.

The 1864 RAT nominee reminds me a lot of their 2004 nominee. In both cases, they tried to run on an anti-war platform and blast the Republican president as a warmonger who is destroying civil liberties, then they nominated a "war hero" who promised he'd do a better job fighting that war. So did they want a truce or did they want to double down our the U.S. effort? Who knows.

Tell the base one thing and the swing voters another.
