He must have a huge property. But let’s say you are a retiree living on a fixed income, how does one afford to live there with that kind of taxes?

Or is NJ signalling this — SENIORS NOT WELCOME HERE.

Unfortunately, $16K does not indicate a huge property in NJ. In certain municipalities in central Jersey, it’s par for a larger middle-clase home. We’d be better off simply sending checks directly to Newark and Camden; it would probably be cheaper for us.

There are, however, some surprisingly beautiful places in NJ: the Somerset Hills, the Jersey shore, state parks, Grounds for Sculpture, to name but a few. And for those cosmopolites among us, proximity to NYC.

I'm in Monmouth County. 2 acres 3,000 sq. f. house. Taxes are $12,000 a year.

Having said that, Ocean County taxes are much lower, especially in the senior communities.
