Some 4 decades ago, I was a student at a northern US university (bordering Canada). It never ceased to amaze me when I would hear the Canadian hockey players,ON SCHOLARSHIP, bitching about what a “raw deal” they we’re getting in the States.

For some reason, I have long been fascinated by Canada. I have spent a lot of time communicating with Canadians on another forum, especially about politics and culture. I often find that Canada and the United States are so close and yet so far. For example, “Conservatism” and “Liberalism” mean different things in Canada than they generally mean in the United States. One Canadian on the forum even opined that the United States is MORE socialist than Canada! FWIW, I am a “red stater” who finds Canada more liberal (as Americans understand that word) than our “bluest” states.
