They don’t, you’re just more aware of it because you speak the same language.
I’m an Englishman and I encountered more anti-British sentiment when I lived in California than I did when I lived in France, Germany, Dubai or the Czech Republic, but that was largely because I understood the nuances of the language better.
If you want anti-British sentiment, this is the ideal forum - it’s full of people who hate the British and take every opportunity to run my country down, usually based on some half-baked tabloid story. :)
It is interesting that you say this, because my experience is the exact opposite.
My experience with my fellow Americans is that they are without exception anglophiles, and irrationally so.
You see this in the media, where Americans have been purged in favor of the English, for example, that idiot Piers Morgan, as well as Simon Cowell, Gordon Ramsey, Sharon Osborne and other blowhards.
Americans are the only shameless people on this planet that allow the English to go on their national television programs and insult them to their faces on a daily basis.
And there is an American cult surrounding Christopher Hitchens, including in Free Republic, that is inexplicable.
And don’t get me started with the American fascination with and adulation of the House of Windsor, that inbred German family that is worthy of disdain and ridicule more than anything else.

I know the only reason FReepers tend to dislike the U.K. is due to historical grievance, believe me whenever our god king Barak Hussein Ubama II insults our old Union, they are quick to defend it.

Nah, they're just irritated because some Brit put malt vinegar on their chips er french fries when they weren't looking. Somebody like my wife who was born and raised in Norwich. Just kidding. I doubt most of the people making the anti-Brit statements actually hate the British. Most people on this forum, like me, admire Churchill and Thatcher too much. Besides, my wife would beat the crap out of me if I took down her little Union Jack pennants that she put among her flowers in the front yard.
