Because waiting periods are dumb as &^%^$!!! My favorite example: A woman who has just kicked the husband who beat the snot out of her, out of the house. She needs to be able to go purchase a gun, today, because chances are good he’s coming back tonight.
There are still waiting periods here in Texas. I’ve had to wait at least 3 minutes for the background check to come back before I can leave with my new rife (aka AK47) or pistol (aka AK47).
I dunno. After last Friday's debacle in New York, maybe we should consider taking the Glocks away from the cops. Jeffrey Johnson only wanted to and did kill his former co-worker. The other nine casualties were innocent bystanders accidentally hit by police gunfire while the cops were trying to shoot Johnson. Seems to me that the odds that public safety would be better improved by disarming the NYPD than by disarming angry citizens are running 9 to 1.
Still have handgun waiting periods here. Because there’s an extra check for them. Not for long guns.
