One of the wonderful aspects of Ann is her ability to “turn a phrase” — in fact, turn it into a hammer. It is a strength, but also has a side that can offend the middle of the road reader that is too delicate for unbridled political commentary.
This column avoids her best heavy artillary — it is reasoned, full of factual history and makes the point well without her smashing furniture.
I love her ability, shown in other other columns, for hyperbolic phrasing that cuts to the bone, but this more reasoned approach is just right here.
