Alexis de Tocqueville said that Europeans will try to get freedom, but will settle for less. They will, however, kill and die for equality. Americans, supposedly, have it the other way around. So now America is becoming Europeanized. And you know why they call ‘em Europeans. Because You’re a peon if you’re thinking European.
It all depends on how you define equality too.
Is it equality when a business has to give handi-capped spots to officially certified handicapped that I cant use and charge me the same as them for it?
Or charge me the same as child bearing women who get Obama-care reproductive (and other womens) services that I cant use as a man?

Strictly speaking that is the Karl Marx definition of 'equality', although Dems have made most (public figure) Republicans teriffied to use the word Marxism, calling it McCarthyism.
