Her dad does freelance film work, so his schedule is different every week, he is not always here.

Considering that "mom" is a walking, talking (incessantly?) pile of neuroses, I can't say that I blame him ... He should have thought of that, though, before he procreated with her. His poor daughter is likely to grow up even more screwed up than "mom".

I know a family that could be this one. Dad is an IT guy and basically works 24/7. Mom could be the same "womyn" as is in the ad...her lifestyle and hangups are identical. Thier teen daughter is basically a feral human. She rarely speaks to anyone except her mother. When her parents aren't around she spends most of her time hiding (lterally-in trees, closets, behind furniture). Conversely, when she has the "upper hand" (i.e. when she is around younger or smaller kids) she is agressive and sometimes violent. If she comes to an activity where food is involved there is always a drama. She can't eat or drink anything except stuff her mom sends and a certain brand of cereal (Barbara's, I think).

IMHO, this kind of parenting is child abuse.
