The only time Ledger had red hair in the movie is when he dressed like the nurse
to get at 2 face his hair was mottled green and brown when he took the wig off so how do they get that the Shooter was pretending to be the joker in his mind the only character i remember having red hair that was male is the Riddler

A few years ago (before the Flashpoint Storyline) DC’s Batman comics did a storyline where Bruce Wayne was killed by an Illuminati type group (don’t remember the name of the organization.) The Joker was in it - he wore a red suit and sported red hair, much like the outfit Holmes was said to be wearing.

I think most people associate creepy clowns as having red hair. The jacka$$ (alleged) shooter probably just had the same take.

I was wondering about this myself. I had read something saying that the Joker’s hair was green, but I seemed to recall that in the Dark Knight it was red. Well, it wasn’t. It was sort of a dirty green, although some of the Heath Ledger image hits show it to be more or less natural reddish blond. Of course, his “lips” are red. The only reconciliation I can think of is that JH was just as confused as I was, but didn’t care.
