It's almost at the end of its fishing season now, we got our last batch for $7.99. It has a distinctive deep reddish color, almost iridescent. Here's a small description from Nat. Geographic: http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/fish/sockeye-salmon/

I think it’s kind of sad that they always show the Sockeye in its spawning colors. By the time they are into the red, they are icky. A bright salmon is at its peak in flavor and freshness, and is so beautiful it’s hard to describe. Sockeye run around 6 pounds, and are a gorgeous “gunmetal” silver when they are prime. Red ones are ready to die. If you catch a red one, throw it back. “Hook and hump, nothing but junk.”
