Web guru advice needed

I'm looking for a little advice on automated test tools or techniques for testing an extension for Firefox.

Specifically it's an extension that works with Firebug and analyzes html for accessibility issues.

Anyone here ever test extensions? Use Selenium or other open source tools?

If you already installed Firebug which: You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page.

I don’t see what the big deal is.

I have no experience with automated web tester tools, very little experience with Firefox and firebug (tho I have used them) and some marginal experience with browser extensions. The only solid advice I have to offer is load your extension onto a browser in a virtual machine, that way you can scramble the browser’s brains all you want and then killing and recreating the virtual machine will unscramble it.

Developer Toolbar is also useful for peering into IE interpretations of the DOM.

I use Telerik’s WebAii framework inside visual studio - it works pretty well on automated cross browser compatibility testing, but I don’t know how it will work testing a browser extension. Go to telerik.com and poke around - they have a free version of their framework, as well as commercial products you can try for 30 days or so...
