For years, Twin Lakes residents had been on edge--demonstrated by their decision last September to start a neighborhood-watch organization, which was initiated by Zimmerman himself.
SANFORD, Fla. - A neighbor of George Zimmerman and fellow neighborhood watch captain in their Florida gated community came to his defense Tuesday ... Frank Taaffe pointed out the circumstances that he believes led his 28-year-old neighbor to react the way he did on the night of Feb. 26: Eight burglaries within 15 months, most done by young black males, he said.Taaffe said that Zimmerman was appointed as a watch captain, despite reports that he appointed himself to the post.
Zimmerman was the point person for the subdivision's Neighborhood Watch. The September edition of the community's newsletter stated: "To receive Neighborhood Watch updates, safety tips and be noticed (sic) of any suspicious activity within your community, call George Zimmerman," and included his phone number, which has since been disconnected.
Thanks, it was also my impression that Zimmerman was part of a group, not a self-appointed vigilante.
