I am writing to register my objection to the registration of Trademark Applications serial numbers 85575974 & 85575890, the “Trayvon Martin Trademarks” as said applications plainly comprise immoral and scandalous matter. Under 15 USC §1052(a) (Section 2 of the Lanham Act), no trademark shall be registered that “[c]onsists of or comprises immoral, deceptive, or scandalous matter.” Therefore, these applications should be refused registration by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

How does the mother intend to use these trademarks? If it is to prevent others from profiting from her son’s name, I am very much in favor of it. If she wishes herself to profit from it, then she will be seen as exploiting her own son.

Or it's immoral for people with ideas different than yours (and probably mine) to make money from trademarked items?

Or it's immoral for anyone to make money from trademarks related to people involved in the use or sale of illegal drugs? Elvis Presley took prescription drugs, amphetamines and barbiturates, prescribed by "Dr. Nick" for other members of the TCB group (which is illegal). Bob Marley certainly promoted the use of marijuana as a holy herb of Rastafarianism. Is there a place we can see about getting Presley and Marley trademarks revoked?
