The Obama Administration is looking to give Russia seven oil rich Alaskan Islands that were discovered and claimed for America by American explorers according to Alaska Republican 2010 Senatorial candidate Joe Miller. “I think the bigger concern here is what natural resources are being lost to Russia,” says one commenter who deplores the secrecy involved with Obama and his SOS Hilary Clinton gifting Putin with United States land.

Miller blew the whistle on this island give away of billions of off shore oil deposits and rich sea beds in an interview with World Net Daily that literately has cyberspace dripping in anger at this present administration.

But when I called the office of GOP AK long time Senator Lisa Murkowski, her aides told me it’s George Bush the father’s fault, and Obama’s people are just cleaning up long standing agreements. I was given this direct email address which came back failed three times: matthew_felling@murkowski.senate.gov when I tried to get them to go on the record.

Miller and blog researchers state that “the purported Agreement for the island give away WAS NOT and IS NOT a ratified treaty according to public record. . .and this Agreement was negotiated COMPLETELY IN SECRET!”

Famed naturalist John Muir was a member of the U.S. landing party of the U.S. Revenue Marine Ship fleet Thomas Corwin along with other American explorers who were awarded Gold Medals by Congress for their valiant discoveries and exploration of the following Islands which already have been given Russian names: Bennett Island, now Ostrov Bennetta; Wrangel Island, now Ostrov Vrangelya; Hennrietta Island, now Ostrov Genriyetty. Remaining land give away gems are Herald and Copper Islands and Sea Lion Rock and Sea Otter Rocks.

The powers that be in the MSM should be held accountable for the damage this marxist does to our country and be arrested for Treason against the United States of America. I am sick of these progressives kiling our country.

It might help if you think about it this way.

The islands have oil and it’s obvious Obama won’t let us drill for it, at least someone can benefit from it.I amsure the Russians will not worry about keeping them “pristine”.

It’ not easy having a anti-American Muslim in the White House.

I believe this was covered on FR over a week ago. If you look at a map of the islands and consider that Russians have lived on the islands for decades, you will see that our claim upon them is tenuous at best. That said, a bargaining chip however small should never be thrown away.

World Nut is a little bit late with this news.

“According to some US individuals, including the group State Department Watch,[33] eight Arctic islands currently controlled by Russia, including Wrangel Island, are claimed by the United States. However, according to the United States Department of State[34] no such claim exists. The USSR/USA Maritime Boundary Treaty,[35] which has yet to be approved by the Russian Duma, does not specifically address the status of these islands nor the maritime boundaries associated with them.

Wiki states:

“On June 1, 1990, Secretary of State James Baker signed an executive agreement with Eduard Shevardnadze, the former U.S.S.R. foreign minister. It specified that even though the treaty had not been ratified, the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. agreed to abide by the terms of the treaty beginning June 15, 1990. According to State Department Watch, neither the public nor Congress were informed of this executive agreement during the period leading up to the ratification vote. [36] The Senate ratified the U.S.-U.S.S.R. Maritime Boundary Treaty in 1991, which was then signed by President George Bush.[37]

In 2004 Wrangel Island and neighboring Herald Island, along with their surrounding waters, were added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List.[38]”

Is this something that the President can do without the consent of Congress? One would think that a treaty would be involved, and that it would require the approval of 2/3 of the Senate.

And, the democrats must thank whatever god they pray to for the Bushes. If it wasn’t Bush’s fault it was nobodies fault.

Does Obama, as president, have the authority to give away Alaskan lands?

1) The islands are not and never were part of Alaska, they were not included in the purchase of Alaska.

2) The U.S. has never actually claimed the islands. Russia claimed the islands back under the Tzars.

3)The treaty on the maritime border was negotiated in 1990 and ratified by the Senate and signed by President Bush in 1991.

A map of the islands:

The Senate ratified the U.S.-U.S.S.R. Maritime Boundary Treaty in 1991, which was then signed by President George Bush.

But was it ever ratified by the Russians?

Since we’ve dealt with this before, I’m just going to say, NO he is not.

But you have to actually research this story to understand why it is not the bad thing that keeps popping up here periodically (and has been for the past decade).

I’ll just give a hint — it’s too much to explain, and I don’t have the link to the last discussion.

The deal between the Soviet Union and the United States never included the islands in question.
