Remember these?
THE LONE RANGER CREED
“I believe that to have a friend,
a man must be one.
That all men are created equal
and that everyone has within himself
the power to make this a better world.
That God put the firewood there
but that every manmust gather and light it himself.
In being prepared physically, mentally, and morally
to fight when necessary for that which is right.
That a man should make the most
of what equipment he has.
That ‘This government, of the people, by the people
and for the people’shall live always.
That men should live by the rule of what is best
for the greatest number.
(This one Im not so sure about. Could be interpreted as socialism. I dont think the Lone Ranger meant that with his words)
That sooner or later...somewhere...somehow...
we must settle with the world and make payment for what we have taken.
That all things change but truth, and that truth alone, lives on forever.
In my Creator, my country, my fellow man.”
The Lone Ranger
——That men should live by the rule of what is best for the greatest number———
I think this was a clumsy way of saying, “the common good,” or “the General Welfare,” as it’s called in the Constitution.
Without this concept, we couldn’t justify sending men off to war. Yes, the good of society is more important than the good of the individual, because society is composed of individuals. Socialists stretch the concept beyond reason. Government exists to protect its constituent parts, the individual and the family, not to tyranize them.
Great pledge, BTW. Society was much healthier then.
Went to Lone Pine California couple of years ago, visited the spot where the Opening of the Lone Ranger show was Filmed, easily recognizable among the Alabama Hills
