Anyone remember those TV Westerns that dominated the screens in both the USA and UK during the 50s and 60s? They were evicted wholesale after Fred Silverman of CBS instigated his rural purge in 1970.
Why did CBS and the other networks close them down? Who knows, because ratings were certainly not low. The Western on page or screen always had an appeal both inside and outside the USA.

Some years ago I saw a photo of an Abrams tank turret during Gulf I. Stenciled on it in neat black letters were the words “Have gun, will travel, wire Rumsfeld, Washington DC.
Our Paladins doing what was expected of them.
Hugh OBrien would have been a decent fellow if he had not got hooked up with the gun control crowd.
When I was a kid, I thought his name was “Wire Paladin”.
Went to Lone Pine California couple of years ago,visited the spot where the Opening of the Lone Ranger show was Filmed,easily recognizable among the Alabama Hills
