Funny you should say that, because the horse was excellent. Assuming it wasn’t a digital creation, which I don’t think it was.
I rarely go to films because my husband dislikes all film, but did manage to see Midnight in Paris on a plane. I would never fork over direct cash to Woody Allen, that pervert, but despite a few scenes of gratuitous conservative bashing, the rest of the movie is hilarious. The Hemingway scenes alone made the movie worth viewing.
No. I thought that too at first.
One of the greatest movies of all time, IMHO, was ‘Shawshank Redemption’, and I don’t recall a female having a single line in that movie.
BINGO!
BINGO!
Isn’t that the movie where all of the prisoners have hearts of gold and are lovable and don’t look anything like the ones you see on “Lock-Up” on MSNBC?
No. It’s the movie about a prison in the 1950s where there was a lot of sodomy and corruption and stuff going on.
You’re thinking of that movie with Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder.
Those are all great and enduring HISTORICAL movies. Great and enduring fiction requires a good female lead.
Casablanca.
Gone with the Wind.
The Wizard of Oz.
Star Wars.
The African Queen.
Chinatown.
The Maltese Falcon.
The Philadelphia Story.
It’s a Wonderful Life.
The Big Sleep.
The Quiet Man.
The Thin Man.
The Sound of Music.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
LA Confidential.
Tintin does have a dog, but the similarities probably end there.
So how many great films have an essentially all female cast?
I cant think of one.
Females have intrinsic value.
Men have extrinsic value.
This is the key to understanding this.
I don’t have a particular favorite. I read the different stories based on my mood.
The earlier ones we have include Tintin in America, which is pretty hokey.
On the other hand, The Calculus Affair is almost entirely believable (and very nicely illustrated).
But of course the later ones (like the Calculus affair) have much better plots...and the Thomsons are almost always there for comic relief....
We don’t yet have the Soviet book, or the Congo one. I’d like to have them, as that would effectively complete our collection.
I was able to find them all online (in pdf form) awhile back...(I forgot which site)...
No, I’m positive I’m thinking about the movie where there was a lot of sodomy and corruption going on with the prison guards and all of the prisoners had hearts of gold and were lovable, just like real life. LOL.
Oh.. you’re thinking of the Burt Lancaster film, ‘The Birdman of Alkaseltzer’.
