One perk the US senate no longer enjoys is saffron spice in its US Senate Bean Soup. Saffron is ridiculously expensive, about $200/oz, and their recipe was heavily flavored with it.
But in that most senators couldn’t taste the difference, they quietly discontinued using it in the recipe, which was otherwise just a typical ham hocks and white beans soup.
