Donors to Bush absent for Perry

WASHINGTON — Fewer than one in 10 of the top fundraisers who helped George W. Bush shatter records for presidential campaign money in 2000 and 2004 have donated to Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s 2012 presidential campaign, a Houston Chronicle analysis of Federal Election Commission data has found.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney holds a wide lead over other GOP presidential hopefuls in donations received from the 939 “Pioneers” and “Rangers” who raised at least $100,000 each for the Bush presidential efforts.

Romney has received 148 donations totaling $351,250 from Bush’s top money people, compared with Perry’s 87 contributions worth $213,000 and former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s 47 donations for $102,867.

Georgia businessman Herman Cain, who is competing with Romney for first place in recent polling, has not received any support from former Bush fundraisers, the study found.

The Bush family’s ties to Romney, the scion of another American political dynasty, run deep.

Two of the former president’s siblings, sister Doro and brother Marvin, have donated to Romney, according to FEC data.

None of Bush’s immediate family had contributed to Perry by the Sept. 30 disclosure deadline.

The results of the analysis underscore the political distance between the camps of Texas’ two most recent governors.

Longtime Bush advisers such as Karl Rove and Tony Fratto have criticized Perry’s statements during his 10-week-old run for the White House.

“What this means is that the Bush team feels more policy and practical kinship with the Romney approach,” said Bruce Buchanan, a government professor at the University of Texas.

Les Csorba, a former senior staff member to President George H.W. Bush and bundler for George W. Bush, said Romney is the only candidate able to defeat President Barack Obama in 2012.

Longtime Democrat Toby Keith donates to Perry ……“In 2007, Keith seemed reluctant to donate to political candidates in spite of his verbal support of George W. Bush.”…..

Longtime Bush advisers such as Karl Rove and Tony Fratto have criticized Perry’s statements during his 10-week-old run for the White House.

The Rove-Bush Machine ran retiring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (who refused to campaign for GOP candidates running against her fellow female Sen Dem friends) in a 2010 primary challenge and they lost to Perry.

Sen. Hutchison said she would not support Rick Perry ..........."Perry launched a series of blistering attacks on Hutchison during the 2010 gubernatorial primary. His campaign labeled her “Kay Bailout Hutchison” for supporting President Bush’s rescue package for the American financial system. He also attacked her for pork barrel spending, saying she was part of the Washington problem and not the Texas solution."......

Disclosure reports show that neither Bob Perry [Perry Homes] nor his wife have donated to Rick Perry's presidential bid. Bob Perry has given money to other GOP primary candidates but not to Rick Perry. The biggest recipient is Mitt Romney. Bob Perry and his wife gave a combined $5,000 to Romney's early this year and $500,000 to the super PAC Restore Our Future that supports Romney.

In 2008, they supported Romney's nomination with a $5,000 donation between them. According to disclosure reports Gov Tim Pawlenty received a combined $10,000 to his presidential campaign and another $60,000 to his political action committee from Bob Perry and his wife. Bob Perry is also the top donor to the Karl Rove-linked super PAC American Crossroads.

The money and support is pouring in for Herman Cain, but we cannot slow down now. Please help him by donating at http://www.hermancain.com/

Also to help join the buzz about Herman go to facebook.com and “like” him. In just the last week he has jumped 13% or 42000 with an impressive 10,000 in the last 24 hours. Make no mistake Karl Rove is watching Herman’s “likes” and so is Romney who gained just 1500 since last Tuesday. THIS is the way to stick it to the GOP establishment! Please tell your family and friends to “like” Herman as well.

“We won’t get fooled again”.

The Bush donors are supporting Romney. I guess that doesn't bother you.

There is a lot of animosity between the two camps so this isn’t surprising. The question will be if Perry gets the nomination then will they continue to sit on their wallets?

I don’t see how they could if it meant re-electing Obama.

Everything about Bush and Perry supporters bothers me. I supported Bush twice... which is why I do not support romney or Perry. I want someone that is NOT a lifetime political animal. We are where we are due to an elite ruling class cutting back room deals and making decisions based on what is best for the politician and not what is best for the People.
