Rick Perry did NOT pick Jeffress to introduce him.
Comment by Katrina Trinko, National Review ^ | 10/9/2011 | Charles

In the discussion here about Pastor Jeffress and his comments about Mormonism not being Christian, many freepers have attacked Rick Perry for "inviting" Jeffress to introduce him.

I assumed these freepers knew what they were talking about. Turns out, they didn't.

I found this reading at National Review:

"Jeffress was chosen by event organizers, not the Perry campaign, to introduce Perry."

So, a Pastor was invited to the Voter Values summit. He was asked to introduce Rick Perry, because he supports Perry. In that introduction, he makes positive comments about Perry, all true.

Perry thanks him for those true comments, which did NOT include an attack on Mormonism.

Later, he is asked about his religious opinion of Mormonism, and answers truthfully that Mormonism is not Christian. This is the belief of most major Christian denominations.

The pastor is NOT the pastor of the church Rick Perry attends. Perry did not invite the pastor to speak. The pastor did NOT attack mormonism in his introduction. It is absurd to blame Rick Perry for what the Pastor said later on to a reporter.

I wanted to claim the title text, so I made this a vanity, rather than posting the article and then commenting on it.

People know I defend Mormonism from a political perspective, and I defended Cain for not denouncing Mormonism.

But I think it is absurd for freepers to attack Perry because a Christian Pastor truthfully stated his Christian beliefs when asked directly.

I have plenty of other reasons to disagree with Perry on. Same applies to Romney.

Being a Mormon should not enter into it, since being a Muzzie (much worse in my opinion) hasn’t been a problem for Ubama.

Charles, you may not have known that, but those who attacked Perry were quite aware of it. We made it known to them and they still attacked him. They don’t want or need the truth.

Amen...but it does show that Perry’s campaign is not nearly as well-oiled as he wants us to believe.

I agree that the Perry campaign did not choose Jeffers. In fact, Perry contradicted Jeffer's opinions about the LDS Church when asked and said he did not believe what Jeffers said.

People are using this to attack Perry. I like Perry and his story. I like his attitude and most of his positions. He would be many orders of magnitude better than the MArxist we now have running the government.

I have issues, strong issues with some of Perry's views on immigration and believe he should never have gone to and sought the vote from La Raza.

Right now, I believe Cain is the best and am supporting him...but will support tthe GOP nominee because any of them will do far better for our nation in all areas than Obama.

God grant that we not tear each other apart to the point where we lose sight of the real goal.

But who is right, the Christian Pastor or Santorum, is Romney a Christian or a cult member? The follow-up Q is, does it matter politically? The Pastor wants voters to think that it does. So it is helpful to know why the Pastor thinks that Romney is not a Christian.

I which case, “Tell the same lie often enough and people will start to believe it.”, scenario, I hear people here who read these lies on other threads, repeat them as fact and keep repeating them even when others post the truth and evidence that proves them to be lies.

Yet, for some reason, they refuse to accept that what they first heard and now believe is not true. so they keep on repeating the original lie again and again. It is shameful really.

Unfortunately, the constant attacks and “tearing” has already taken it’s toll on this forum. Deep personal attacks have become the norm here and this forum is losing members in droves. Like in any political campaign, when the money starts to dry up, it’s time to look for a new source or candidate.

It's purposeful. It is as deliberate as it can possibly be. The intent is to get Romney nominated, just as it as the intent in the last election to get McCain nominated.

Romney supporters are quickly zotted here, but they can pretend to be Palin supporters or Cain supporters and accomplish the same thing.

As a Texan, I have seen more than enough of Perry to last me a lifetime.

Thank goodness that he can not run for Governor again.

I keep running into many supporting Cain who are Romney supporters. I should ping JR on them...but he’ll find out soon enough.

Don’t bother to report them. I think I’ve hit the abuse button 4 times in the 13 years I’ve been here.

I have a dozen reasons for thinking that Perry would make a rotten, RINO candidate. But this didn’t bother me one bit. Much ado about nothing.

Jefress was simply speaking the truth: That there are a lot of Christians in the South who simply will not vote for a Mormon.

They also won’t vote for a Catholic. As a Catholic, it doesn’t bother me one bit to discuss the facts on the ground. To say that it’s hard for a Catholic to win many southern states does not strike me as bigotry, but a simple statement of the facts. There may be bigotry involved, but not for simply pointing out the truth.

Romney wants to win New Hampshire, Utah, and maybe Florida (not part of the real “South”), early on, because he knows he’s going to stall and crash as soon as he hits the South, just as he did last time, unless he appears to have huge momentum. Which he will not.

Perry is Methodist and is a member of the same church Bush attended.

Nope.

I’m semi-retired, a volunteer at my local police department, former active duty Marine and a member of Oath Keepers and Gun owners of America.

Why the stupid question?

What you say is very true. Little do they realize, that by taking down Perry and switching to Cain, they inadvertently promote the bane of Free Republic, Mitt Romney.

Cain more than clearly pointed out that if Romney offers him a VP spot he would gladly take it. Knowing Cain's dismal financial difficulties and poorly organized campaign so late in the game, that is pretty much a guarantee of where Cain will wind up. (Cain's attacks on Perry and refusal to accept his VP offer is quite telling.)

There you go again. /rolls eyes.

So the Journolist rag Politico practices yellow journalism to get the gotcha answer means nothing to you in your quest to make Perry supporters feel bad right?

This had nothing to do with Perry but more to do with the 0bama fellating press shaping the debate away from the real issue of the economy onto one that most people don’t give a flip about.
