A special advisory committee will issue a report that validates the aviation community’s concerns about threats to GPS by a proposed broadband communications network.
The committee, part of the not-for-profit organization RTCA that serves as a federal advisory panel on navigation and air-traffic management policy, issued a summary of its report May 26 stating its conclusion that elements of the cellular network proposal by LightSquared are “incompatible” with aviation because of potential GPS signal interference. It added that modifications could be made “to allow the LightSquared system to co-exist with aviation use of GPS.”

Wireless firm LightSquared pressed its case for government approval of a new national broadband network in numerous contacts with presidential aides, at times citing its fundraising for Democratic causes and President Obama, White House emails show.
On the day that LightSquared CEO Sanjiv Ahuja made a $30,400 contribution to the Democratic Party, two of his deputies appealed to the White House for meetings with top technology advisers to Obama, according to emails obtained by iWatch News .....

You are absolutely right. It’s so funny that we hear all the time about how being a minority targets you for police harassment etc., but one of the most profound preferential treatment issues in the US is that between people with a D vs. an R after their name.
