Philly’s I-ARI one of many holding events for Beck’s 8/24 “Restoring Courage"

A few days from now, thousands of viewing parties are occurring, all over the planet, for Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Courage” event in Jerusalem, taking place on Wednesday, August 24 from 10 AM-noon EST. The Philadelphia area is no exception.

With the expectation of garnering numbers even beyond those of Beck’s “Restoring Hope” event nearly a year ago at Washington D.C.’s National Mall, “Restoring Courage” will be viewed by large groups through the world in halls, rooms, restaurants and homes.

In Philadelphia, the Israel-America Renaissance Institute (I-ARI) think tank is presenting a viewing for like-minded supporters of Israel. Dr. Arno Weinstein, Executive Director of I-ARI, explained the great level of anticipation of the “Restoring Courage” event as due to the innate desire of Americans to support the shared values of the founding of America and the Hebraic traditions that mandated the creation of the Jewish State of Israel.

Dr. Weinstein elaborated: “The Israel-America Renaissance Institute (I-ARI) is pleased to host the Philadelphia viewing of Glenn Beck’s ‘Restoring Courage.’ We are unyielding advocates of American Exceptionalism, of the foundational doctrines of America’s founding. I-ARI supports the efforts of Mr. Beck and understands that the salvation of this country, the United States, rests in its rediscovering of its own first principles and, this being absolutely pivotal, the recognition of Israel’s particular role in relation to America as the universal.”

Oops, I thought what turned out to be in “Comment 1” would just be in a line at the end of the post. Sorry about that. 3 hours of sleep will do that.

So Adam, what is the real reason you refuse to share your writing ~in full~ with the good FReepers who provide you with this forum?

Certainly you’re not so crass as to just be fishing for hits? (Law practice a little slow these days?)

Law practice is fine.

It has more to do with egomania than anything else, I suppose! (But I have no problem with writers and publications getting credit for their work ... you as a free marketer can appreciate it; as you’ll see in my own writing, I am very careful to credit and link to other sources and only use “teasers.”)

Anyhow, I did share pretty much the entire relevant part of the article. (I left out a few somewhat tedious paragraphs.)

And you are aware that the FreeRepublic/Examiner agreement requires that only an “excerpt” can be published here? I have stretched that limit to as about as great an extent permissible here (just for you and your friends), as I’m sure you’ll agree if you take a look.

Thanks for asking.

"It has more to do with egomania than anything else, I suppose! "

A remarkably accurate self-assessment.

"And you are aware that the FreeRepublic/Examiner agreement requires that only an “excerpt” can be published here?"

I am aware that in the case of "Joe Newby" aka "FredJake" aka "jdawg2010" (May he rest in Zot!) the poster/author was so desperate for hits that he brought copyright threats against FreeRepublic for posting his "work" (which was mostly drivel) in full.

I guess I was abused of the notion that you, as author of your own work had complete discretion over where and how it was published/posted.

As an aside, if you really believe that parts of your writing are tedious, I would refer you to the maxim of one of my favorite mentors, Dr. Ed Cronin, PhD, Professor Emeritus of English and GPLS at Notre Dame:

""Verbosity is failure."

I don’t think we’re disagreeing on much here.

The “tedious” parts I left out were extended quotes that came from the source, that are useful to a specific audience in Philly but not as generally-relevant as the parts I did post. I’m totally sleep-deprived (as is often the case for me Fridays and Thursdays ... I keep the Jewish sabbath, so it’s the regular rhythm of the week. If I don’t basically pass out at dinner on Friday nights, I figure I was being a slacker during the week.) ... so there is little chance I’ll be showcasing any brilliant writing today (not posting more than one thing of mine a day), so might as well post this. Plus, the information can be quite useful to Freepers in the general Philly area.

I could of course run an “excerpt” that leaves out a period at the end, but I think that’s not really too fair to the place that publishes my work. There is a happy medium to be had.

Joe Newby is in Idaho? Not a bad writer, in the limited stuff I’ve seen of his. (Yes, he’s quite aggressive, but power to him as long as he follows the rules.)
