Assisted Suicide and Rationing Pushed As “Pragmatic” Way to Pay for Vermont Single Payer
First Things/Secondhand Smoke ^ | 7/19/11 | Wesley J. Smith

I told you so. I have said for almost as many years as I have engaged in anti assisted suicide advocacy that eventually killing (ending life) would come to be seen as a splendid way to save money in health care. I used to have HMOs in mind in making that argument. But now, it seems that single payer systems may be the greater danger.

Vermont has passed a single payer health plan–but hasn’t figured out how to pay for it, as I mentioned here previously. An editorial has come up with two “pragmatic” ways to cut costs. Yup, one is assisted suicide. The other is explicit health care rationing–which I have also written flows naturally from single payer systems in difficult economic times. From the Addison County (VT) Independent editorial:

Money must also be saved in services delivered to people with chronic diseases and those who frequently use emergency rooms, he said; two areas in which the community at large must help play an important role. Passing a law that allows physicians to help end a patient’s life under very controlled circumstances, known as “death with dignity,” is one such measure that could help (an effort was tried this pass session but postponed until next year). Another is approving some type of rationing measures, as Oregon has done, that help control health care costs.

Exactly. And you’ll end up with expensive care being denied in Oregon–but patients offered assisted suicide–as happened to cancer patients Barbara Wagner and Randy Stroup under Oregon’s oh, so “compassionate” law. And the editorial ludicrously talks about restricting heart transplants for 92-year olds–as if all those near-centurions are getting all the organs. What a joke.

Some are willing to dismantle Hippocratic medicine by tossing the sickest out of the lifeboat and legalizing doctor-prescribed death as a way of saving money and promoting “pragmatism.” I am not. VT opponents of assisted suicide, raise this editorial as a battle flag and defeat the threatened culture of death.

This is EXACTLY what the Nazis did.

Nazis were/are God-haters, Christ-haters, and Jew-haters. Come to think of it, the majority of this world fits that description.

This is exactly what most all “Single Payer” medical systems, eventually come to. It has happened all across Europe.

“Single payer” is the ultimate social engineering technique. If the government determines that you have become a burden to the state or if you refuse to become an obedient servant to the government, you’re toast. The current crop of commie ‘RATS may believe that this is “progess” but fascist dictators and their murdering thugs have been doing this for years.

Don't underestimate these promoters nowadays by taking modern day Nazism out of the equation. ; )

My fix for social security is to line up everyone over the age of 50, and shoot every tenth person in the head. Do this every six months until the numbers work out.

Liberals are truly the "Children of the Corn".

I am strongly in favor of mandatory Vermont assisted suicide, but only for all those Upper West Side Manhattan d-bags who moved to Vermont after ruining New York.

Gotta keep those health care costs down, you know.

Governmental policies and deeds follow the rule of repeating history for thousands of years now. The sad part being that now we can't even use the excuse that the repeated policies are from centuries ago. Now we repeat the same mistakes in less than 50 years! You have to really be evil or a moron to engage in that idocy.

Well.........Evil Morons does best describe the liberalist platform as practiced.

Stripped of its “humanitarian” pretenses, Liberalism is revealed as a death cult.

Morons are easily manipulated.

The manipulators are not morons, they are just pure evil.

Evil Morons is an excellent description however.

Regardless of what Orwellian Newspeak the Statists try to use to soft-pedal their tyrannical control, we should ALWAYS call it what it is.

In this case: “STATE RUN MEDICAL TREATMENT”

In terms of companies colluding with the government, that is NOT “crony capitalism.” It is “CORPORATE SOCIALISM.”

Death panels will come, that is a given. Morals have changed and people will acept anything as long as the politicians keep the cash coming. The to me the question of interest being: what demographic will compose the panels and what demographic will be systematically selected to die?

Exactly. And you worded your point perfectly.

We need to stop handling these dictators with kid-glove terms like “Marxist” and “Progressive.”

These are nothing more than hard-core, old-school rat-commie bastards. They’ve lied and cheated and cronied their ways into positions of authority and respect and try to present their tyrannical agenda academically and democratically (for the “common good”).

But what they are is communist tyrants and all they want is control over our liberty.

Even more than that, it’s a death cult that worships money, placing it above the health and welfare of its citizens.

Like the manner in which the liberal cultists used such people as Cindy Sheehan to achieve its power/money ends in 2008, they cast her off as no longer needed when they succeeded. Citizens of the state are being treated in the same way in this Vermont policy which assumes the success of the liberal cult as a starting point, aided by the citizens who voted for it, and now casts them off. Absolute power of the state is the assumption in this plan.
