Issa This political maneuver seems designed to protect the careers of political appointees at the Justice Department and not public safety. Its disconcerting that Justice Department officials who may have known about or tried to cover-up gunwalking in Operation Fast and Furious are continuing attempts to distract attention from clear wrongdoing. In Operation Fast and Furious, gun dealers didnt need this regulation as they voluntarily provided ATF agents with information about suspected straw purchasers. In return for this voluntary cooperation, the Justice Department betrayed them by offering false assurances that they would closely monitor sales of weapons that dealers otherwise did not want to make.
grassley:
Weve learned from our investigation of Fast and Furious that reporting multiple long gun sales would do nothing to stop the flow of firearms to known straw purchasers because many Federal Firearms Dealers are already voluntarily reporting suspicious transactions. In fact, in just the documents weve obtained, we are aware of 150 multiple long guns sales associated with the ATFs Fast and Furious case, and despite the fact that nearly all of these sales were reported in real time by cooperating gun dealers, the ATF watched the guns be transported from known straw purchasers to third parties and then let the guns walk away, often across the border. This makes it pretty clear that the problem isnt lack of burdensome reporting requirements. The administrations continued overreach with regulations continues, and is a distraction from its reckless policy to allow guns to walk into Mexico.

You can be sure that the reporting requirements will be onerous with draconian penalties for mere mistakes.
This has been the end game all along — but gun dealers out of business — and the leftscum aren’t going to let silly little things like getting caught breaking the law and facts stop them...
When this fails—which it will—what will their excuse be then? Let me guess: “...gee, we need this ‘tool’ nationwide!”
when it fails the new tune will be “It was Bush’s fault”
At this point, I’ll forever be suspicious when I read about a gun dealer being charged for illegal sales.
“This has been the end game all along...”
Exactly...plus more restrictive laws placed on law abiding citizens. This criminal activity by the Obama administration is all about destroying our second amendment rights. They never intended to trace those firearms to the cartels.
Indictments need to be handed out and Holder and Obama should be held accountable for the murder of the two american agents. Mexico should seek the same justice for their people.
We have a criminal enterprise in the White House.
It is only the infringement of the right to keep and bear arms by the Mexican government that creates any incentive to smuggle guns to the south.
Sorry to disagree with you, but ultimately the end game is confiscation which can only be done if they have a record of every purchase everywhere - and this is the first step in that long progression.
Love your tag line: The Obama Depression
You are correct. My stage (putting gun dealers out of business) is just a mid-stage step.
“Since Holder is the Top Cop in the land just who is gonna be handing out these indictments???”
We have an elected House of Representatives that can Impeach and a Senate that can try both of them. A Federal Grand Jury can also bring indictments against Holder.
If there is a better solution...I am listening.
This program was far more insidious...

CIA Trumps all.
Just ask Michael Levine.
“Running guns into Mexico into the hands of criminals? There can be no objective to this but death, and lots of it.
The events in Operation Fast and Furious are eerily identical to those surrounding the arrest of General Ramon Guillen Davila, a CIA asset who was [indicted for] smuggling a ton of cocaine into the US [in] 1996, in what was described as an intelligence gathering operation, the problem being that no intelligence was ever gathered and that the ton was only one of many other similar shipments of cocaine that actually hit the streets of the U.S. by way of CIA agents.
If I were a criminal profiler, it wouldn’t take much to identify a CIA pattern here [with Fast and Furious]: A wacko, barroom commando, illegal operation that makes no sense whatsoever, run outside the control of law enforcement.”
btw, what happened to General Ramon Guillén Dávila?
He claimed all his operations were at the Behest of The CIA.
He and his son wanted to kill Chavez. Before Obambi got in office.
You know who else is claming to be a CIA asset.Zambada Niebla A key player in a Mexican Drug Cartel who is locked up and not allowed to talk to anyone but his lawyer and a couple of jail personnel. Accused of trying to smuggle guns into Mexico for Sinaloa
Where did they get their guns??????
Wanna bet it was Gunwalker?
Sure enough....I was right.
Border Agent Brian Terry was killed by a Gunwalker gun..in the hands of the Sinaloa Cartel
The date for this article by Michelle Malkin is March 30, 2011. I believe the NRA has even earlier articles....Obama lied and so has Holder....is anyone listening? The President of the United States like Clinton...lied to the American People about the then demanded stimulus.

(NRA to Call for Holder's Resignation Over 'Project Gunrunner' Allegations).....Michelle Malkin also wrote an article in March of 2011...."Obamas stimulus-funded border nightmare" ...........this is not a new story...it is about the DOJ gone wild......
