President Barack Obama used his weekly radio address to salute dads for Father's Day and tout his administration's efforts to help parents navigate the shaky economy.
Mr. Obama, who has two daughters, said he has tried to be a good father. "I haven't always succeeded, of coursein the past, my job has kept me away from home more often than I liked," the president said.
President Obama filled his address with tips for being a good father but above all, he said, "children need our unconditional lovewhether they succeed or make mistakes; when life is easy and when life is tough."
Mr. Obama said he understands that, with the unemployment rate at 9.1%, a lot of fathers are out of work. He said his administration has worked with community, faith and military groups to help give fathers and children support. Earlier in the week, his administration partnered with the Walt Disney Co. to give military personnel and their children a special screening of the movie "Cars 2."
Mr. Obama is protective of his daughters. In an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America" that aired Friday, the president was asked about the coming 13th birthday of his daughter, Malia.
"I'm not anticipating complete mayhem for the next four or five years, but I understand teenagehood is complicated," Mr. Obama said. He then quipped, "I should also point out that I have men with guns that surround them often."

There is only one I want unemployed.
Which parents? Government employees and those on the welfare?
“I haven’t always succeeded, of coursein the past, my job has kept me away from home more often than I liked,”
YOU failed my kids too. I had to take a second and THIRD damn job to replace the one my wife lost because the place I worked was SHUT DOWN by YOUR government you worthless SOB.
Now I rarely EVER see my kids!
way to go zero.
Is he helpping by giving Certain unemployed fathers free room and board with three square meals at their county prisons?
So, is this actually a subliminal cry for help by an incompetent president, besieged by problems of his own making, pleading by analogy for the nation to give him the unconditional love that he craves and deserves, whether he succeeds or fails, whether life is good for them or life is difficult?
He seems to be saying, "please don't blame me for the mess (that I caused)." After all, it's not really his fault, is it? Of course not - in his mind, nothing is his fault, rather he inherited most of the problems from his predecessor, and any new problems have just been the legacy of the Republicans who drove the car into the ditch, and really nobody could have been expected to do any better than he has done, what with the terrible hand he was dealt, so we're really all OK here, aren't we...
Obama has helped families? What a joke! He has destroyed more than he has helped.
Government is your Daddy.
Does “being a good father” include trips to Man’s Country?
Wonder what the little darlings would think of daddy’s recreational activities of the past (or present)?
“in the past, my job has kept me away from home more often than I liked,”
In the past? You’ve had a job about, what, four years now?
Maybe he should accompany Manchelle to Africa at the end of this month and we’ll change the locks before they get “home”....
Obama’s alternate universe.
