Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) is keeping the pressure on former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney over the healthcare plan he championed as Bay State governor.
A day after Romney officially launched a presidential exploratory committee, Santorum again questioned whether Romney was the right candidate to carry the party's torch against President Obama next year.
"I really believe ObamaCare is the most important issue in this election," Santorum said during an interview on "Fox and Friends" Tuesday morning. "It is the turning point for our country. We better have a candidate who is out there and very, very strong in opposition to government-run healthcare and focuses on healthcare that centers on you, not on the government. snip
"That, I think, is a problem for Gov. Romney this time around," Santorum said.
Santorum has proven to be the most willing among the pack of GOP presidential hopefuls to go after the field's presumed frontrunner on healthcare, directly challenging Romney's plan on several occasions in recent months.
The former senator made similar comments in an interview with The Hill earlier this year, suggesting Romney's healthcare plan could disqualify him for the Republican presidential nod in 2012.

This story is from last month, but I just discovered it, and was happy that one of the Republican candidates have bluntly come out against Romneycare.
I eapecially liked from the article: "Santorum again questioned whether Romney was the right candidate .." Now that is DIRECT, and the way many of us feel about Romney.
And yet Santorum supported Romney for the nomination in 2008. Does he explain why?
DeMint also supported Romney, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they both changed their minds. Maybe they thought Romney was the least of the evils of the remaining candidates.
That's why I love you Rick. Keep up the attack dog mode. It is time to destroy Mittens before he gets going too far.
Win, or lose, Santorum is the only candidate I know of (so far) who attacked Romney for Romneycare, and that is a very good thing.

I think Romney is worse than Mccain, Huckabee or anyone. Much much worse.

Myth is a political hack who will do whatever he thinks is popular to gain political advantage. Mclame consistently pushes highly dangerous and unpopular stuff because he knows better. When picking between two Statist Progressives, I would have to side with the craven poll driven wimp over the crazy lunatic with a seriously dangerous agenda. Also remember the ‘08 election was a whole different time than the mess we are in now. Demint, Levin, Rush et al seemed to have the same impression at the time.
The Huckster had some seriously dangerous Statist ideas on diet and restrictions in ‘08 as well.
Huckaphonee is toying with the idea of getting in the race, too (as it is a given that Obama is going to be retired in 2012).

What I’ve noticed is that some people aren’t doing their own research. They just blindly believe what somebody else says without checking it out for themselves.
There is too much at stake for knee-jerk reactions.
Yes, Romney shouldn’t be the nominee because he still supports RomneyCare. No, Santorum shouldn’t be the nominee either because the focal point of the election will be the economy, not ObamaCare. The country had its debate on health care and, while it shouldn’t be off the table as a campaign topic, the recession and the high unemployment rate are going to be the issues that pull people off the fence. All the right GOP candidate has to say is “America, do you want four more years of 9% unemployment and $4.00 gasoline or do you want a president who understands how to make an economy rebound?”
“We so need this.”
Yes, we do. Win, or lose, Santorum won’t be afraid to bring the truth out, and will help us stop the RINOs.

It probably will be about the economy, but Santorum will be up to that task, as well. And so will Bachmann, Palin, and probably Cain and Pawlenty, too.
Santorum? The guy who endorsed Arlen Specter over Toomey? He lost my trust that same day.
