The major problem with Fukushima is the loss of gereneration capacity that has affected Japan. As an aside some manufacturers in this country that use Kubota engines can’t get them.. Fukushima was a disaster for Japan’s just in time manufacturing.

The utility took a multi-billion dollar hit. Thirty years ago the cleanup at TMI started. They ended up processing 20 million gallons of contaminated water. Fukushima will see much more than that. The Japanese have a much bigger problem with at least three reactors that were stressed beyond design limits. They’ll never operate again.

Sure the radiation is a problem. That can be cleaned up. The ongoing economic damage cannot.

Another problem is the radioactivity in the ocean, when much of their food is ocean based (fish, sea weed, etc).
