According to local officials in one small community in Southern Illinois, this spring a program, known as the National Take Back Initiative, meant to keep unused and outdated prescription drugs out of the wrong hands and as a way to let the public safely dispose of unwanted and unneeded prescription drugs, has removed over 50 pounds out of people's medicine cabinets.

Me too, GB. Why does EVERYTHING have to be disposed of in a special way? Before we know it, we’ll no longer have garbage collection, but a special method to dispose of virtually everything!
I have old computers, printers, monitors, VCRs, etc. in the basement, yet I don’t thrown them out because I guess they have to go to “electronics recycling”. As a result, I’ve got a ton of clutter laying around. What a hassle!
They collected 51 pounds here in Benderville last month and my first thought was are these people storing their pills in lead containers...
I read an article a couple of months ago (I think it was here on FR) that indicated testing had proven that the majority of prescription drugs remained viable several years beyond their original expiration dates.
Big Pharm hasn’t been telling the truth about those expiration dates. It’s another example of “planned obsolesence” to ensure more frequent sales.
