He was shot with a 5.56, probably from an H&K 416 assault rifle. It's a supersonic projectile that tends to yaw and spin when it hits something. Does a lot of damage against an unarmored target at close range.

Hollow point bullets aren't allowed for mil use, per the Geneva convention.

Found the following: "The Geneva Convention doesn't ban HP bullets, the Hague Convention of 1899 banned HP and other types of expanding bullets. The United States NEVER signed, nor ratified that convention. Legally, we could use HP ammo tomorrow if we wanted to."

I mentioned 9mm, 'cause there was tremendous media coverage of the SigSaur P226 in 9mm which is apparently SEAL issue. I would be carrying a rifle in 5.56Nato or bigger, if I had a choice. Even the 5.56 would bust his melon. Look what it did to JFK, when fired from SSA Hickey's AR15, according to Howard Donahue ("Mortal Error").
