I gather you are to young to remember the encryption newsgroups.

Let me say this, I would bet you either work for the NSA or don’t realize they WROTE your encryption program. If you think you are going to “do” something to help and my bet is wrong you are too stupid to work with.

If you would examine it, you would realize that 1) it’s open source, and 2) that it contains elements of plausible deniability, and 3) we aren’t talking about PGP.

Now, If you think that your every move is going to be analyzed by No Such Accountants, or their equivalents, well, you must be a very important and dangerous person.

For the rest of us in the real world, who aren’t James Bond, it provides an easy way to pass information even on removable media in front of regular cops, Fibbers, and others. It can be done regularly. It can be done with decoys. It can be done with encoded information that won’t make sense even if the plain text is discovered. It can be done with nonsense. It can be done with plans or messages for parties.

It is highly effective, as the hidden partition cannot be revealed under all but extreme investigative methods. Which don’t usually travel around in squad cars. There’s a time and resource element, where one can make them waste huge amounts of resources and time. It is far easier to generate fakes than it is to break through them.

Since you are evidently Dr. Evil, I suggest sharks with laser beams as a means of defense. The rest of us will settle for what we have.
