I wonder if anyone else has experienced this problem. Recently after a few painful flights in and out of Newark, a colleague recommended that I purchase a Presidential Plus Card. It is quite pricey at $395, but he said it's well worth it< > <> I now book a flight with continental, only to find out that Continental booked it with their partner United. In the nick of time , I run onto the Monorail and go from Terminal C to A. I then check in to United, and am asked how will I pay for my bags? I responded that I don't have to because I paid 395 for the Presidential Plus Card. I was told that this was United , and not Continental. I responded that I booked the flight with Continental, they switched me, and its the same company. <> <> a manager with " can I help you " demeanor came by and took my card to a computer. She returned and said there is no record of me and that my card was just for the lounge. As I was in a hurry I used my Continetal credit card to pay. Has anyone else experienced this Ripoff?
Sounds like weak execution in the merger. Not uncommon...
I guess their computers aren’t talking to each other yet.

The bigger a corporation gets, the more like a government bureaucracy it becomes. Good luck! ;-)
Are you sure the person who recommended you purchase the card is a friend?
Check with your friend who recommended this, then call Continental and demand they reimburse you if it was supposed to be covered and that if it happens again you’ll have them cover that too, and then reimburse your outlay for the card. Mention your internet posting skills and collegial relationship with the legal profession, consumer advocates, and the air transportation industry, if any apply.

He is actually also a business partner .he is happy with the card, until he gets switched to United
Ever since the merger with United, the customer service at Continental has been abysmal, whether it’s with their rewards program, service on airplanes, customer service representatives who don’t know from nothing - whatever.
I cancelled my Continental Airlines Master Card and won’t have anything to do with them anymore.
I have often made the observation that entering an air terminal is about as exiting as getting off the bus at a Greyhound station.
You should have flown American. The Admirals Club is the best!!!!
Perhaps, but in this case I thought I was traveling Continental
Fly Southwest. Problem solved.
“Terms and Conditions
Eligible customers will get their applicable checked bags free on flights operated by Continental only; codeshare flights are not eligible.”
I traveled many years for my Company and enjoyed a company paid-for Presidents' club membership. That all ended 2 years ago when I was laid off.
When Chase offered the Presidential Plus club card for $395, I jumped on it because: I love access to the club, but even more important, you get Elite access with baggage handling, and get to go to the head of the lines for check-in and security screening, even if you don't have miles for elite access.
That sold me, right there and then.
Since then, wife and I have traveled with all of the above perks including access to President's clubs, all other affiliated clubs such as United, US Air, Lufthansa, etc.
What's not to like....?
Sorry to see you had one bad experience....welcome to the *joys* of traveling...but I suggest you give it a chance.
