Police repress protest against Obama visit with shots of rubber bullet

RIO - Military police violently suppressed a demonstration against the arrival of U.S. President, Barack Obama, organized by members of social movements on the night of Friday, in downtown Rio.

The protesters threw a Molotov cocktail at the door of the American Consulate, Avenida Presidente Wilson. The police responded with bullets borrracha shots. A radio reporter was CBN hit. Traffic was stopped on site.

The demonstration was not authorized by military police nor City Hall, but still about 200 members of social movements and parties allied base of President Rousseff, including the PT and PDT PCdoB, were gathered in from Candelaria to 16h .

Major Fabio Alessandro, the operations side of 13th battalion of the PM, who was at the scene, told the demonstrators that they were not allowed to leave the Candelaria. At about 18:30 the protesters broke the police orders, occupied two lanes of Avenida Rio Branco and headed to the American Consulate, blocking traffic.

The demonstration proceeded without major incidents during the trip. Arriving in front of the U.S. Consulate, Avenida Presidente Wilson, under cries of protest, two Molotov cocktail bombs (a kind of homemade bomb) were thrown by protesters. One for the front door of the consulate, causing a principle of fire, and another in the street. The fire struck the guard from the consulate, Rodolfo Pereira Gomes, 26, who had part of his body burned and was rushed to hospital Souza Aguiar.

Military police responded by shooting rubber bullets. There was a rush. A CBN radio reporter was hit by gunfire without gravity. Traffic was stopped on site and at least 14 protesters were arrested, of which 12 have already been submitted to the 5th police station, in downtown Rio

Through advice, Governor Sergio Cabral said it will not express it.

How can this be..this is clearly an error, we have been told over and over again that everyone loves Obama and when he is in your presence, skittles and lollipops literally fall out of the sky

Google has a fantastic translator - it can even pronounce words and we’ve tried translating “giria” (slang) in Portuguese to English with accurate results. That’s impressive since it changes constantly.
