Why? A reporter who travels to a hostile region knows full well that there's a very high liklihood that it may be a one way trip, even with the best security measures in place.
There sure as heck wasn't any of the same hoopla in the journalist world when Steve Centanni and Olaf Wiig were taken hostage and nearly killed. There are also countless other journalists who were killed or assaulted while doing their jobs. I'll even go so far as to suggest that many on the left were cheering on their captors and hoping that they would indeed murder them, simply because they worked for FOX news.
If there's anything to be taken from this crime, then perhaps maybe it will change the view that the MSM currently takes on these types of savages, especially when they render negative judgements on western culture in comparison with them.

Under threat of death Steve Centanni converted to Islam. I have yet to hear him renounce his conversion.
“Before the journalists’ release, a new video was released, showing Wiig and Centanni dressed in beige Arab-style robes. The kidnappers claimed both men had converted to Islam. “We were forced to convert to Islam at gunpoint,” Centanni later tells FOX.”
